All Institutions approved by the PCI for the conduct of Pharm.D. course Sub: Clarification regarding evaluation of Remedial Mathematics/Biology (Ist year subject of Pharm.D.). Sir/Madam With reference to the subject cited above, it is informed that Council in its meeting held in April, 2010 has decided to issue the following clarification to institution running Pharm.D. programme. Clarification regarding evaluation of Remedial Mathematics/Biology (Ist year subject of Pharm.D.) a) With the prior approval of the concerned Examining Authority, the institution can evaluate subjects of Remedial Mathematics/Biology either at its own level or the evaluation be conduced by the Examining Authority as prescribed under Pharm.D. Regulations, 2008. b) Any one of the two subjects i.e. either Remedial Mathematics or Biology can be carried forward to 2nd year Pharm.D. as an additional failed subject alongwith 2 failed subjects of Ist year under regulation 15 of the Pharm.D. What is Pharm.D course?   Pharm.D course is a Professional Pharmacy doctoral programme of 6 yrs duration after 10+2 (science        academic stream) which includes 5yrs of academic study + 1 year of internship or residency. 2. What is Pharm.D (Post Baccalaureate)? Pharm.D (PB) course is a Professional Pharmacy doctoral Programme. B.Pharm graduates shall be admitted as lateral entry candidate to the 4th year of Pharm.D programme & the duration of course is 3 academic years ( 2yrs of study and 1 year of internship or residency). 3. What are the eligibility criteria to join Pharm.D courses? In this connection, it is clarified that under the Pharmacy Act, 1948, the PCI – frames regulations prescribing the standard of education required for qualification as a pharmacist. approves the pharmacy institutions for the purpose of practicing the profession. lays down the norms & standards for pharmacy institutions including qualification & experience of teaching staff desiring to obtain approval of the PCI under the Pharmacy Act. Accordingly, PCI has framed regulations namely Education Regulations, 1991 and Pharm.D. Advice to students seeking admission to Pharmacy course The Pharmacy Council of India is a statutory body constituted under the Pharmacy Act 1948, a Central Act passed by the Parliament to regulate the profession and practice of pharmacy in the country. It has come to the notice of the Pharmacy Council of India that a number of Pharmacy Institutions are functioning in the country without seeking/obtaining recognition/approval from the Pharmacy Council India.
